The current consumer confidence index (BWUK) increased by 4.3 percentage points in monthly terms and amounted to minus 24.9 points in December this year, according to research carried out by the Central Statistical Office (GUS).
Among the index components, the assessments of the future economic situation of the country and the current ability to make important purchases improved the most (increases by 9.2 percentage points and 8 percentage points, respectively). Higher values were also noted for assessments of the future financial condition of the household and the current economic condition of the country (increases by 5.6 percentage points and 0.5 percentage points, respectively). The decrease (by 1.8 percentage points) occurred only to assess the current financial situation of the household.
In relation to December 2019, the current value of BWUK is lower by 29.2 percentage points.
The leading consumer confidence index (WWUK), synthetically describing the trends in individual consumption expected in the coming months, increased by 5.9 percentage points. compared to the previous month and amounted to minus 24.2 points. All its components contributed to the increase in the index value. The highest increase was recorded for the assessment of the future economic situation of the country (by 9.2 percentage points). For the remaining components of the index, the increases were as follows: 6.4 percentage points for the assessment of the future level of unemployment, 5.6 percentage points for the assessment of the future financial situation of the household, and 2.8 percentage points for assessing future money-saving opportunities.
In November this year, WWUK reached the value of 23.4 percentage points lower than in the corresponding month of 2019.
