Poland only 41st in globalization ranking
In the latest report, DHL assessed the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the degree of global globalization. The amount of information sent worldwide is returning to what it was before the pandemic, but population flow continued to decline, the report said. According to the United Nations, the number of people traveling abroad is expected to drop by 70 percent in 2020.
The Netherlands, Singapore, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates, and Ireland are currently the most globalized countries in the world. Poland is in 41st place. This shows the distance to be made up.
“Countries with a well-developed network of international ties are developing more dynamically and should exit the pandemic faster,” Tomasz Buraś, President of the Management Board of DHL Express Polska, commented.
“In many ways, the world is less globalized than it seems at first glance. For example, flows of foreign direct investment account for only 7 percent of global investment outlays. Also, only about 7 percent of the total time of telephone calls (including connections via the internet) is international and only 3.5 percent of people live outside their homeland,” Tomasz Buraś added.
The globalization index calculated by the freight forwarder, which has not changed last year, will drop significantly in 2020, results from forecasts pointing mainly to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is mostly due to border closures, travel, and passenger bans.
